A 28-YEAR-OLD man has been jailed after beating up a woman in a serious case of domestic violence.

Leigh Samms, of Ramsden Street, Barrow, pleaded guilty to assaulting Jasmine Henderson at Furness Magistrates' Court on Monday and was handed an 18-week prison sentence.

However, Samms also had a 12-week suspended sentence given for theft and two counts of assault in February earlier this year activated by presiding magistrate Mrs Sharron Gillam.

This meant he was given a total prison sentence of 30 weeks. He was also ordered to pay £100 in compensation to the victim.
