A MAN from Barrow forged an Italian medical document before making up symptoms at Furness General Hospital's on-call GP service in a bid to get a prescription for amphetamine.
Stephen Joseph Bamber rang the 111 NHS helpline and lied about his symptoms so he could get an appointment at the out-of-hours GP service at Furness General Hospital.
When he arrived at the appointment, on Sunday (June 4), 44-year-old Bamber said he was from Italy and showed the doctor a forged Italian medical record he had made earlier.
Bamber, of no fixed abode, was later charged with two fraud offences.
At Furness Magistrates' Court on Monday, he pleaded guilty to attempting to obtain amphetamine by dishonestly making a false representation, and also pleaded guilty to making an article to be used in the commission of fraud.
Bamber was ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work and to pay £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.
