A YOUNG man has now got a criminal record after his 18th birthday celebrations spiralled out of control.

Isaac Anthony Harrison, of Maple Street in Barrow, appeared before Furness Magistrates' Court on Tuesday charged with assaulting a police officer in her line of duty.

Harrison, 18, pleaded guilty to the offence, which happened when he was out celebrating his birthday.

Lee Dacre, prosecuting, said: "The incident took place at around 12.50am on Saturday October 15 in Cavendish Street, where there was an argument.

"The defendant was drunk and warned to leave the area but he refused to leave.

"He was restrained and arrested and, while that was happening, he used his right leg to kick out at PC Winter causing pain but, thankfully, no injury."

Tristan Roberts, defending, said: "Mr Harrison was out on his 18th birthday.

"It's a case of a young person having a little too much to drink.

"He can't remember much about what happened but he is prepared to concede police evidence.

"His behaviour is well out of character and he is extremely sorry for what he has done and ashamed of being here before you today.

"He spent the night in the cells on his 18th birthday and woke up thoroughly ashamed.

"He was just days away from being in the youth court."

The magistrates fined Harrison £150 and ordered him to pay a victim surcharge of £30 and court costs of £85.

Presiding magistrate Steve Sim said: "It was a silly thing to do on your 18th birthday and you're lucky we didn't go down the community order route."
