A DISQUALIFIED driver has admitted crashing into a parked car, fleeing the scene and later trying to cover his tracks by claiming his van had been stolen.

Tony Wilkinson, of Provincial Street in Barrow, has pleaded guilty to driving without a licence and without insurance and failing to stop or report a collision.

Wilkinson was driving down Park Drive in Barrow on June 19 of this year in a white Renault van when he crashed into a parked BMW Z4.

He then left the scene and later reported to police that his van had been stolen. He also tried to make a fraudulent insurance claim.

The 38-year-old, who had no driving licence or insurance at the time of the crash, admitted the offences, as well as attempting to pervert the course of justice by lying to police, at Preston Crown Court today.

Wilkinson will return to the court on January 19 for sentencing.
