A MAN charged with causing the death of an 81-year-old driver is set to appear in court today.

Richard Cupid, of Newbarns Road, Barrow, is accused of causing the death of Roa Island resident John Bromley on the A5087 Coast Road on May 17, 2015.

The defendant is alleged to have been driving a Ford Transit van on the Coast Road when he failed to follow the bend in the road and collided head-on with Mr Bromley's Fiesta.

The incident is alleged to have happened between Rampside and Roosecote at around midday.

He will appear at Preston Crown Court today after previously appearing at Furness Magistrates' Court on Wednesday October 12 where he gave no indication of plea.

After Mr Bromley's death, his family described the former lifeboat volunteer as a “fun-loving character and good for a joke."
