LORD and Lady Cavendish helped mark the anniversary of a Barrow institution as it celebrated its 50th year.
The Abbeyfield Barrow Society has been providing care, security and companionship for five decades throughout Furness.
Combating loneliness among older people has been a long-standing priority for Abbeyfield. On their anniversary several high-profile guests commended all they have done during their long history.
Chairman Vic Leader explained that all the group had achieved was down to always being present in communities.
He said: "We are a part of, not apart from, the local community."
Abbeyfield opened in 1967 with two properties but moved to a purpose-built location - Millennium House in Dalton Road - in 2000.
