A BARROW hospital's maternity appeal has reached more than £155,000.

Bay Hospitals Charity’s Bayb’s Maternity Appeal, which is is funding raising for extras for the new maternity unit being built at Furness General Hospital, in Barrow, now stands at in excess of £155,000. The target for the appeal in £250,000.

A night of comedy hypnotism at Ulverston’s Laurel and Hardy Museum raised £700 for Bayb’s Maternity Appeal. The sum was then swelled by £53 collected by appeal volunteers at Barrow’s Tesco supermarket over a lunch-time.

On Thursday November 9 the appeal is set to benefit from the proceeds of a ladies fashion show, in Ulverston, where items on the catwalk – all from high street favourites such as Next, Oasis, TopShop, New Look, M&S and Wallis – will be available to buy at a pop up shop at up to 50 per cent or more off their recommended retail price from a pop up shop.

The event takes place at Ulverston Sports and Social Club, Priory Road, with doors opening at 7pm for a 7.30 pm start. Tickets are £6 each and can be reserved by calling appeal co-ordinator Heidi Bowron on 01229 404473 or volunteer Rachael on 01229 869643.

The extras for the new maternity unit fall outside the remit of what the NHS is able to fund. The extras have been added to a shopping list of items, all designed to make the unit second to none in the country while giving it a real home from home feel for local families and for newborns, the best possible start in life.
