HOSPITAL staff in Barrow turned up to work in their nightwear, to raise awareness about their patients’ need for dignity and comfort.

The national End PJ Paralysis campaign aims to help employees understand how it feels for those who have to wear pyjamas in hospital and promotes the health benefits of getting dressed and out of bed and being as active as possible.

Today, staff at the organisation which runs Furness General Hospital got involved.

Supporting her troops on Twitter, Jackie Daniel, chief executive of the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Really enjoying the #endPJparalysis photos this morning! Particularly the rollers!

“Great effort - thanks for engaging in this, so important.”

Bed-bound patients lose up to five per cent muscle strength every day they spend in bed, and can also develop skin breakdown, pressure sores, confusion and fatigue. Many lose the ability to carry out routine daily functions like bathing, dressing and walking.
