ARE you loving, caring and friendly? Are you very good at cooking "school recipe" type meals? Are you good with people or want to learn social skills?

If you answered yes to these very specific questions then a Furness aid organisation has just the job for you.

Barrow and District Disability Association is looking for a new cook for its Willow Tree Cafe in their School Street base and need somebody with the right skill set.

Margaret Burrow, BDDA chief executive, said: "It's comfort food, food people are familiar with.

"These people may never have had a hot meal for days or even had company in a week.

"We want the cook to be able to provide a comforting hot meal as well as good socialisation."

BDDA started the cafe in 2002 after Margaret was outraged by the treatment of local disabled school children.

Mrs Burrows said: "These children went into town to a local cafe, being severely disabled they were very excited to be out in the public.

"Due to their excitement they were dropping food and making noises they couldn't control.

"When the carer went to pay for the 15 meals she was told next time you bring 'those' people in here can you make them face the wall so they don't put the other customers off."

As soon as the woman told Mrs Burrow this had happened she vowed to turn their communal area into a cafe so disabled people could come for food and not feel alienated.

Mrs Burrows is fully aware that anyone with cooking skills would be able to fill this role however, they are looking for someone with something more than the skills.

They need someone who can interact with the customers as it is a great way for them to learn socialisation skills.
