CENTRICA'S terminals in Barrow are still out of action as engineers investigate how high temperatures developed within the equipment which controls the gas pressure.

Firefighters from Barrow, Ulverston and Walney were called out by terminals employees at around 1am on Sunday as a safety precaution after control room engineers recorded high temperatures in part of the equipment used to boost the pressure of the gas.

The safety flare at the terminals, used to remove excess gas from the system, was significantly bigger than normal, although Centrica bosses said this was normal procedure and nothing to be concerned about.

Centrica confirmed today that the terminals remains on shutdown while the investigation determines the cause of the problem.
