A FOOTBALL hooligan has been slapped with a three year banning order for troublemaking at matches.

Daniel Thompson today appeared at Furness and District Magistrates Court for sentencing after pleading guilty to a Section 5 Public Order offence earlier this month. The 24-year-old, of Ulverston Road, Lindal, was arrested during a friendly between Barrow AFC and Carlisle United on July 23.

He will be unable to attend football matches until 2019.

Chief Inspector David Bosson said: “People attending football matches in the county are there to enjoy the game with friends and family, and do not expect to see nor should have to tolerate disorder or anti-social behaviour taking place. “Unfortunately, there can be a very small minority who have other intentions and it is their behaviour which can spoil the fun of the event for others and commit offences. “Cumbria Constabulary work alongside football clubs in the county and liaise closely with them to deal with the anti-social behaviour. Convictions such as that today show our continued commitment to put those who cannot enjoy football sensibly before the courts.”
