A DANCE event has raised hundreds of pounds to help families living with cancer.

Organised by Barrow firm Transfigure Fitness, Clubbing for Cancer saw women dance to raise money for local charity CancerCare.

Owner Rebbecca Sailsbury, along with fitness instructors Rebecca McGurk and Sinead Davey, held the 'clubbercise' event to support the charity's work in Barrow and Ulverston.

Stacey Smith, an aromatherapist for CancerCare in Barrow and Ulverston, also helped organise the event, and said: "We’re so grateful to Rebbecca for organising it. She had fractured her ankle and she still did it. Rebecca and Sinead led the dancing and they were fantastic.

"Everybody was buzzing and the vibe was brilliant. We all had glow sticks and club music was blasting out. I would like to thank Rebbecca and her team for giving their time and raising funds."

Through the events, and donations made at the group's boot camps, £416.65 was raised, with the funds to be spent in Barrow and Ulverston to provide one-to-one services.

CancerCare is an independent charity which offers free counselling, therapeutic massage and other therapies. Its Barrow and Furness base is at the Furness Centre at Trinity Church Centre on Warwick Street.

Neil Townsend, chief executive of CancerCare, said: "It is great to see the support that is building for CancerCare in Barrow and Furness.

"We are hugely grateful to everyone in the community who supported the ‘Clubbing for Cancer’ event and I would like to thank them for their efforts.

"All of the funds raised will be used to expand our free services for people facing cancer and their friends and family.”
