A 62-year-old Barrow motorist was caught behind the wheel while more than three times the legal drink-drive limit.

Richard Charles Dickerson, of Bank Lane, pleaded guilty to the charge of driving with excess alcohol when he appeared at Furness Magistrates' Court on Tuesday.

Dickerson was stopped by the police in Bank Lane after driving around 50m in a white Rover on May 12.

He smelled of alcohol and provided a positive breath test on the side of the road.

Dickerson was found to have 114 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. This is more than three times the prescribed limit of 35 microgrammes.

Dickerson was fined £760 and was disqualified from driving for 27 months.
