A STAFFIE type dog has been confiscated after it attacked another dog in Barrow.
Police were called to Oxford Street in Barrow at around 2.55pm on Tuesday after receiving reports of an out of control dog.
On arrival, officers discovered the Staffie had bitten a Golden Retriever called Bailey.
The offending dog was confiscated while the owner is traced.
The other dog suffered serious injuries, including bites to its ears, face and chest, but it is understood to be expected to make a full recovery.
Witnesses described the incident as "horrific" and one said they had "never seen anything like it".
A number of bystanders helped to pull the Staffie away from Bailey and have been praised by witnesses for their actions.
Police thanked the members of the public who helped the owner of the injured dog.
