A BARROW group which is all about fathers and children having fun is due to celebrate its six-month anniversary.

"Who Let The Dads Out?" is held at St Paul's Church in Hawcoat Lane, Barrow, on the third Saturday of every month from 10am to 11.45am, and gives dads and granddads the chance to play with their children up to the age of five.

The project was the brainchild of Deborah Price, St Paul's children and families co-ordinator, who noticed there weren't many local places specifically dedicated in nurturing the special bond between father and son or daughter.

She said: "Since beginning, the response has been very positive, with a new one or two virtually each month and others returning.

"We have had very positive comments about the lovely environment, quality of toys and equipment and friendliness of everyone."

A total of 20 fathers and grandfathers have registered to the monthly sessions so far, with 24 children attending.

There are lots of activities to enjoy each month, including a craft zone and story and song time.

The aims of the project are to:

- Strengthen families so fathers and children can develop;

- Support fathers from split families by providing a place for access;

- Provide contact with the church;

- Affirm fathers in their vital role;

- Provide mothers with a bit of space and time to herself or with an older child.

The group gives fathers a chance to socialise with other dads and also provides popular bacon butties.

The next session of "Who Let The Dads Out?" is a Christmas special on Saturday December 17 when mothers are invited as a one-off.
