WHEN Syd Greenhalgh saw Jean Dobson in the Lakeland Laundry where they both worked, he knew he would marry her. A couple of years later on December 14, 1957 they did marry at St John's Church on Barrow Island.

They lived on Barrow Island until 1983, when they moved to Tantabank Farm in Dalton where Syd could continue with his job of sending containers of furniture and phone boxes to America. After moving once more they built their own bungalow in Dalton, where they lived until it was time to downsize. They moved to the new Parklands estate in Askam, where they lived until four years ago when they moved into a luxury apartment in the converted Methodist Church on The Promenade on Walney.

Since retiring Syd enjoys watching rugby league and goes to every Barrow Raiders home game. Until recently Jean loved to line dance. They both have enjoyed many foreign holidays and cruises and they have visited Australia many times to see their daughter Sue and her family.

For the past 10 years they have enjoyed spending time in their static caravan at South End Caravan Park, Walney.

Syd and Jean have three children, Lynn and Dave who live in Barrow and Sue who lived in Canberra, Australia. They also have five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

To celebrate their Diamond Wedding they had a celebratory meal in September, when Sue was here on holiday and their children have treated them to a weekend break at the Castle Green Hotel in Kendal.
