A 72-YEAR-OLD coach driver from Barrow has been convicted of driving without due care and attention after smashing into a car while overtaking.

John Prospero, 72, was found guilty of driving without due care and attention after a trial at South Cumbria Magistrates' Court on Friday.

Prospero, of Salthouse Road in Barrow, denied overtaking a number of cars on a rural road leading to Cartmel Racecourse on June 30 of last year, the date of Tom Jones's concert at the venue.

Prospero overtook traffic which was waiting to turn into a junction and in doing so caused a collision with a black Jaguar XF.

He was found guilty by magistrates and given nine penalty points, fined £375 and ordered to pay £620 court costs and a £38 victim surcharge.
