A CHAMPION carer who has worked with adults with disabilities for 25 years has received the Evening Mail's Bouquet of the Week.

Linda Conroy is a popular member of staff at the Croft Care Trust in Hawcoat Lane, Barrow, and recently celebrated a quarter of a century service at the charity.

The 69-year-old was surprised with a party put on by her colleagues on the 25th anniversary of her starting work and also received the Bouquet of the Week.

Mrs Conroy, of Derby Street, Barrow, works as a nursing assistant but told the Evening Mail she has held many different roles and worn many different coloured uniforms over the 25 years.

She said: "It was unexpected. I knew that it was 25 years but I didn't remember the exact date so for them to do the party on the day was nice.

"The staff made up an album for me for all the years I have been here and all the people I have met.

"The residents are the people that I come for and the whole place is just a lovely place to work and everybody gets on with everybody.

"All the residents they know everybody's footsteps before they open their mouths. They know who's coming in to their room.

"It's a special place."

The Croft Care Trust has been running for more than 50 years and the nursing home accommodates 23 residents over the age of 18 who require long term care.

There are also 23 additional residential beds with the organisation priding itself on its homely and friendly environment.

Mrs Conroy said she has too many good memories to pick a favourite.

She said: "We have done lots and lots of trips to Blackpool and to the Lakes, places like that. We've had Christmas dinner on the steamers and they have done lots of things for the residents to enjoy."

Mrs Conway was nominated for the Bouquet of the Week by nursing home manager Colette Hibbert on behalf of all the staff and residents.
