A SPECIAL guest visited pupils at a South Lakes school in preparation for a class trip to the Houses of Parliament.

The Year Six class at Dane Ghyll school played host to Barrow and Furness MP John Woodcock, who came to speak to the children about life as an MP.

The pupils asked Mr Woodcock questions to help them learn more about what goes on in parliament, in anticipation of their visit to London next week.

Mr Woodcock explained the differences between the House of Commons and House of Lords, and took questions on how the government works.

One of the pupils, Eboni said: "It was very informative and we learned lots about the Houses of Parliament so, when we go to London, we can understand it more."

Mr Woodcock was very glad to see the next generation so enthusiastic about politics and learning more about how the country is run.
He said: "It was fantastic to visit Dane Ghyll and speak to the students about my work in parliament representing Barrow and Furness.

"The students were very perceptive and we covered everything from why David Cameron had to resign after the referendum to whether I ever get lost in parliament.

"Getting young people active in politics and the community is so important, and I look forward to welcoming pupils to parliament when they visit."
