SIX Barrow Island flats are set to go under the hammer with guide prices starting at £20,000.

Six properties in Steamer and Schooner Street will be going under the online hammer with John Pye Property Auctions on September 7 and 8. The apartments have a guide price starting at £20,000 and ranging up to £25,000.

Flat 3h in Schooner Street has a rental yield of 15.6 per cent. It is a fourth floor apartment, currently let and achieving an annual rent of £3,900 after being refurbished in the last three years.

Since John Pye launched its property division two years ago, 20 similar properties have been sold through the online auction house as demand from national and international buyers has grown.

Richard Reed, head of John Pye Property, said: "These apartments are great, readymade investment opportunities. Many of them have been refurbished not too long ago, and all have tenants.

"Despite Brexit, demand for low value property investments with high yields in Barrow in Furness is growing. The island is a strong rental area with young, affluent graduates taking their first steps into the rental market and also for over 50s who are taking advantage of the rental market.

"We have successfully sold a number of similar style flats in Barrow and it is likely we will have more coming onto the market in the near future."

Last month, we revealed that Egerton Court, made up of the 56 flats numbers 1 to 9a-h is listed on Rightmove as being up for sale for £1.855m.

The listing, which is aimed at investors who could make a rental yield on the properties of around 14 per cent or £235,000 income a year.

The listing states: "A consistent maintenance programme has resulted in an entire portfolio, all double-gazed, gas centrally heated and attractively decorated apartments, all effectively and professionally managed on site. There are various opportunities to improve the margins and also an opportunity to purchase the freehold on the properties.

"The block has steadily enjoyed rising popularity from locals, but now contractors linked to the Trident Submarine program are finding this location increasingly attractive."
