A POPULAR family museum was transformed into a hub for all things vintage as it swapped ships for sequins to host this year's Dock the Halls event.

Barrow's Dock Museum was packed to the rafters with market traders, craftsmen and beady-eyed shoppers looking for bargain gifts.

The special vintage event returned on Saturday and Sunday and offered up a range of retro clothes and accessories, jewellery, furnishings and much more across 25 different stalls.

Organiser Rachel Martin said: "It's been really busy and we've got a nice mix of vintage and handmade goods.

"Some sellers have been doing fairs with me since I started and some have come from Carlisle, Kendal and Yorkshire.

"I think it's just different and it's not the high street - everything is unique and individual and people can find presents for Christmas."

The vintage lover used to live in Greenwich in London, a place she said which inspired her to get more involved in retro events.

Jewellery designer, Danielle Aspinwall, first began making her bespoke pieces five years ago, but has only recently returned to work after having two children.

The Blackpool native who moved to the area with husband Martin, runs Yappers Chappers Designs and specialises in making allergy-friendly pieces using materials like aluminium and leather.

This was the mum-of-two's first event in more than a year.

She said: "I love making the pieces; I find it very therapeutic.

"Some things are a one-off and I love the aluminium rings - they're my favourite."

Among the other stalls which proved popular with shoppers was Val Isherwood's selling knitted blankets and teddy bears in aid of the charity she founded following the death of her baby girl - The Tiger Lily trust.

She said: "I put every ounce of passion and perfection into the items because, when you lose a baby, everything is just out of your control so things being perfect is very important."

Entertainment was provided by a special guest who proved the king of music was not dead after all.

Elvis Presley impersonator Mark Cumberland took centre stage singing numbers by the music legend as well as Roy Orbison and Chuck Berry numbers.

The Glaswegian, who lives in Ulverston, donned a £3,000 catsuit and Cuban heels especially for his debut appearance at the event.
