Three key sites have been earmarked for almost 100 new homes to be built in the next few years.

Councillors have backed timescales for marketing of three pieces of land with a view to potential building work.

The recommendations, which are part of a five-year supply for housing land, will involve sites in Flass Lane, Barrow; land north of Duchy Court, off Flass Lane, Barrow; and two areas of land either side of West Point House in Solway Drive, Walney.

Councillor Brendan Sweeney, Deputy Leader of Barrow Borough Council At a meeting of Barrow Borough Council's executive committee at Barrow Town Hall last week, Councillor Brendan Sweeney, deputy leader of Barrow Borough Council, said the land could be appealing for developers looking to build housing.

He said: "There has been significant interest in these sites already. With what is going on in Barrow the housing market is getting stronger.

"I would hope to see the land used for good-quality housing as these are good sites.

"With good transport links, access to schools, and located in nice areas, we know that if houses are built there, people will buy them."

Assuming that timescales are met and permissions obtained by developers should each piece of land be purchased, an estimated 93 dwellings could be built on all the sites by the end of 2019/20.

The Evening Mail reported earlier this month that councillors had recommended approval for 30 homes on land north of Duchy Court.

Marketing for the land could start immediately subject to outline planning permission.

Should the land in Duchy Court be completed, the two pieces of land in Solway Drive will be put on the market, again, subject to planning permission.

The two sites in Solway Drive could see approximately 40 homes built on the two plots of land by 2019/20.

The marketing process for the site in Flass Lane will open to developers in early 2017.
