AN inquest into the tragic death of a baby from Barrow has been postponed while crown prosecutors conduct a second review of evidence, it has emerged.

Senior coroner for Cumbria, David Roberts, confirmed today that the Crown Prosecution Service was set to 'carry out a fresh review of the evidence' relating to the case.

He took the decision to suspend the scheduled inquest into the tot's death - which had been set to go ahead on October 10 - on Wednesday.

The review by the CPS is expected to take 56 days.

A formal coroner's inquiry to establish how 13-month-old Poppi Worthington died in December 2012 was expected to last three weeks.

A new date will now be scheduled when the CPS review has been concluded.

Poppi Worthington was found collapsed overnight at her home in Barrow four years ago.

She was pronounced dead at Furness General Hospital a short time later.
