A CONSTRUCTION worker has fallen from a crane at a building site at the shipyard in Barrow.

An air ambulance and road paramedics were called to BAE Systems in Barrow at around 1.58pm this afternoon.

A male contractor in his 40s is understood to have fallen from a crane within the paint shop construction site in Bridge Road.

A spokesman for BAE Systems said: "We can confirm that emergency services attended the BAE Systems site in Barrow this afternoon. A contractor was transported to Furness General Hospital by the North West Ambulance Service following the incident."

A spokeswoman for the North West Ambulance Service confirmed a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance was called to the scene in Bridge Road at 1.58pm after a man fell from a crane.

The North West Air Ambulance was also called but the man was taken to Furness General Hospital by road ambulance.

A spokeswoman for Morgan Sindall, building the Central Yard Complex, confirmed the incident had not happened on their site and had occurred on the paint shop site, which is operated by Sir Robert McAlpine.
