1. Music lovers can kick off their weekend at Grizedale Rocks on Friday night, watching a range of south Cumbrian bands and other acts with links to the region. The mini music festival takes place at Grizedale Campsite, in Satterthwaite.

2. Children love to get their hands dirty, so why not let them do it in a way that helps them develop a new skill? Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway is hosting two Young Engineers Days on Saturday and Sunday, giving those aged five and over the chance to find out how engines work and take a ride on a locomotive.

3. What weekend round-up would be complete without a mention for Ulverston’s biggest celebration of live music, street theatre and arts? Another Fine Fest will be taking place across Saturday and Sunday, at 11 different stage locations throughout the town.

4. Feel like getting energetic in aid of a truly worthy cause? In that case, Sunday’s community sports day, hosted by the Joshua West Foundation, is the one for you.

Running from noon until 4pm, at the sports club in Priory Road, Ulverston, individual activities costing £1 each will include Wang the Welly, Obstacle Course, Dizzy Penalties, Cross Bar Challenge and Fastest Serve.

5. Also taking place on Sunday, for history buffs hoping to treat their dads to an educational day out, Furness Abbey in Barrow is hosting Life In The Past: A Monk’s Life. Running from 10am until 5pm, and at £5.40 for adults or £3.20 for children, the event gives visitors the chance to meet a monk and find out what life was like when the Abbey was rich.
