A PENSIONER told a court he felt "ashamed" and that he'd "let his family down" after being caught drink-driving.
Alan Richardson, of Nelson Street, Barrow appeared at Furness Magistrates' Court on September 13 where he pleaded guilty to driving a motor vehicle when his alcohol level was above the legal limit.
Richardson was stopped by police on August 23 in Duke Street and when breathalsyed, measured at 44 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.
The 70-year-old, who was not represented, told the court he did not know how he came to be over the limit.
He was disqualified for 12 months, fined £200 and ordered to pay court costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £30.
