A POIGNANT memorial which celebrates the lives of lost loved ones by releasing messages into the sky is returning.

Balloons to Heaven 2016 hopes to welcome more visitors than ever before.

Organiser Angela Caulfield said: "It's nice community event but with a difference.

"There are a lot of events now which is why I am looking for sponsors so we can make it more like a family day out.

"Everyone just said how lovely it was last year and were very emotional."

The event was inspired by the loss of a loved one Miss Caulfield wanted to remember in a unique way and aims to raise funds for St Mary's hospice in Ulverston, the North West Air Ambulance, the Defib appeal and Barrow and South Lakeland Down Syndrome support groups.

A biodegradable balloon and label costs five pounds which is then donated to the various causes.

Miss Caulfield has organised the memorial for the last three years and this year it is being held at Holker Old Boys football club in Barrow with singer Beth Horan performing.

Also attending is entertainer Silly Sam and Taylor Swift tribute, Tiffany Southward.

Face painting, bouncy castles and an inflatable assault course will also be there plus much more.

If you would like to attend on Sunday September 25 and release a balloon you can register on Facebook and also pay in advance for a balloon.
