40 extra jobs as Next moves to bigger site

A NEW jumbo sized Next store is to open in Barrow employing 60 people.

Twenty staff will move from the existing Next in Portland Walk which will shut, and around 40 new jobs are being created.

The new 9,000 sq ft Next is opening on the Hindpool Retail Park on the site of the old John Whinnerah Institute building.

It will be side by side with a new Brantano shoe store which is creating 20 new jobs on the John Whinnerah site.

The new Next opens in January. Barrow Jobcentre is holding a recruitment open day for the store on November 26.

A Next spokeswoman said: “We are very pleased to be opening a larger store in Barrow and to be able to offer more choice for our customers.”

Staff at Next in Barrow only heard news of the development this week.

The new store will stay open until 9pm during the week and will sell women’s, men’s and children’s clothes as well as home furnishings including furniture.
