Should the district councils be dissolved and Cumbria be made into a unitary authority?

Yes (43%)
No (57%)

Total Vote Count 127

Have your say

Good idea to get a debate going but the stark choice of changing to a unitary Cumbria or staying as we are is awful. Very few people understand the differences between the County and Districts (even your wonderful reporters often get ehm mixed up!).
We desperately need to get rid of the nonsense of duplication and scrap the County and all the districts. But one council for all Cumbria? No way. Have all our services run from Carlisle? That would be worse than what we've got now.
Cumbria needs to be split into 2, 3 or 4 unitary councils. Any of these options would be better than what we've got now.
I would prefer a unitary council for Furness. Have a council for west cumbria, one for Carlisle and one for Kendal and the Lakes.
A better poll would be 'should we have a unitary authority for Furness?'. I'd vote yes to that. It would save millions every year.
