HUNDREDS of runners young and old put their best foot forward and headed to a south Cumbria park on Saturday.

Park runs in Barrow, Ulverston, Millom and Fell Foot all recorded great turn outs with many runners achieving personal bests.

At Barrow parkrun 177 people took part in the 9am event.

Organisers said there was a minor "hiccup" with one of the barcode scanners, which meant the full results took some time to generate, but at least 19 people managed to record new personal bests.

For the men, first across the line was Danny Bouffler in a time of 18:57, the thirteenth time he’s finished first at Barrow. Second was Steven Postlethwaite with a new PB in 19:30, shaving 18 seconds off the time he set last summer. Third was Ian Sadler in 19:40, who pretty much owns that third-place podium step, having occupied it 39 times.

For the ladies, Amy Singleton was first home in 21:20, just seven seconds outside of her best, which given her current form is sure to tumble in the coming weeks. Second was Heather Travis in 22:36 with Kerry Travers crossing the line third in 23:41.

In Ulverston the fourth Ford parkrun saw 143 participants complete the 5km course of Ford Park.

The first men to finish were: 1st Sam Upton in 18:42 - a keen parkrun tourist; 2nd Anthony Aimon in 18:48 - his 160th event to date; and 3rd Andrew Dorrian in 19:56. His 2nd time at Ford.

For the ladies: Georgia Bell was the 1st lady, and junior runner with a time of 20:57 overall 10th position; Carol Baker, 2nd in 22:26 and Derina Delinova was 3rd lady in 23:01 - a new personal best time.

In Millom 48 keen participants listened to race director Dawn Attwood’s briefing.

For the first time there were a couple of pace runners to help those who wished to fine tune their runs; Rob Overton leading the 25-minute finishers and Jonathan Bailey leading the 28-minute brigade. This proved very successful as many personal bests were achieved by winner Scott Mossop, Michael Spegelaere, Colin Benn, Hannah Wright, Suzy Overton, Holly Singleton, Colin Southward, Lee Brabbs, Ellen Longhorn, Kelly Lancaster, Heather Singleton, Wendy Craik, Sarah Pinney, Elle Peck White, Keaton Keen and Susan Southward. Tremendous achievements by all.

And in Fell Foot 245 people took part, of whom 81 were first timers and 47 recorded new personal bests. Representatives of 30 different clubs took part helped by 20 volunteers.

If you'd like to give parkrun a go turn up at your local park at 8.45am ahead of a 9am start.
