A NEW book dedicated to exploring Barrow’s distinctive architectural identity has been released.

Barrow-in-Furness in 50 Buildings by Gill Jepson has hit shops to showcase the very best of the town’s historical buildings.

The book explores the architectural heritage of the town which stretches back further than the Victoran era.

The author is a founding member of the Furness Abbey Fellowship, a voluntary group who work alongside English Heritage to support the abbey, which features in her book.

The book looks at buildings including Furness Abbey and the Gothic Town Hall, as well as the public library and newer buildings.

A spokesman for Amberley Publishings, which has published the book, said: “The book will serve as a valuable guide for local residents and anyone with an interest in architecture and heritage.”

The Barrow author has also written a number of other books on the town’s history including Barrow-in-Furness at Work and Barrow-in-Furness Through Time.

As a keen historian and teacher Mrs Jepson has researched the history of Barrow extensively.

Through her new book the author will guide the reader on a 96 page tour of the town’s buildings.

The book, which was released last week, is available for purchase from Amberley Publishings for £13.49 it is also available in digital Kindle, Kobo and iBook formats.
