IF you prefer a Martini to a mild, then head to The Strawberry in Abbey Road, Barrow, this Saturday for a one-off Las Vegas-style casino night.
The pub is hoping to hit the jackpot for two local charities by bringing in roulette, black jack and poker tables, worked by professional croupiers.
Strawberry landlady Diane Hogan said: “The proceeds will go to the North West Air Ambulance, for saving the life of one of our members of staff, Hal Armstrong.
“They will be split with the David Cole Training Fund for oncology nurses, because David was my godson.
“The cabaret-type evening will also give the landlady a chance to dress up after working hard over Christmas.”
Hal Armstrong was seriously injured in a car crash on the M6 in March 2007, which tragically claimed the life of his older brother Pierce. Thousands of pounds has been raised since the accident for charities such as air ambulance organisations and various hospital funds. Accomplished sportsman David Cole died in July 2003, aged 24, after losing his three-year battle against testicular cancer.
Family and friends have honoured one of his last wishes, to help other cancer sufferers, by setting up the David Cole Training Fund.
Tickets to the casino night are still available from the Strawberry at £10 each, which includes buffet and live entertainment throughout the evening.
And if any more incentive were needed Mrs Hogan promises: “Elvis will be in the building.”
The event starts at 8pm.
