STAR TURNS: From left Lorraine Fisher, Sarah Talbot and Matthew Robson bid for a place in the grand final

A host of talented singers competed in the second heat at the Canteen Media and Arts Centre, Michaelson Road, Barrow, on Tuesday night.

A pub singer, a hairdresser and a student are battling it out this week to join Amey Haughin in the grand final on December 23.

Search for a Star sees the arts centre and the Evening Mail team up as we look to discover the next great local singing talent.

The first heat two finalist is Lorraine Fisher, who wowed judges with her rendition of Lucie Silvas’ song What You’re Made Of.

The 24-year-old lives in Ulverston with her daughter Savannah and earns a living singing in pubs and clubs around the region.

The second singer vying for your vote is 29-year-old Sarah Talbot from Barrow.

She sang Out Here On My Own by Irene Cara.

Sarah works at Kutz hair salon in Crellin Street and is lead vocalist in Barrow band Sugarfoot and a member of dance group Dance Mania.

The last finalist is 16-year-old student Matthew Robson who secured his place in the heat final with his version of Oasis classic Wonderwall.

The Barrow teenager attends Barrow Sixth Form College and works part-time at Matalan.

He loves playing the guitar and singing, and fronts the young Walney rock band Elite.

Canteen owner Gary Robinson said: “It was heartening to see another strong week of talent and a few new faces at the event. We had nine really good acts that went head-to-head this week and the standard was very good again. The competition is really gathering momentum with lots of people talking about it in the town.

“There are another six weeks until the final so there are six more chances for people to enter as many times as they like. Whoever wins the main prize of a professionally-made music video worth £2,500, a trophy plus a cash prize, will have a terrific chance of making it in the music business.”

It’s now up to you to decide which of this week’s three singers goes through to the grand final.

People can see videos of each of the performances on the Evening Mail website.

You can vote for your favourite by either postal coupon, on the Evening Mail website or by text.

The deadline for the postal vote is next Tuesday.

And those voting by text or on the website at www.nwemail.co.uk have until 3pm next Tuesday.

To vote for Lorraine Fisher, enter act A, for Sarah Talbot enter act B, and for Matthew Robson enter act C.

l Those interested in taking part in the Search for a Star competition should attend every Tuesday at 8pm to enter.
