AN academic lecture linking Albert Einstein’s genius as a physicist with his love for the violin came to Furness.
By Natalie Chapples
A-Level, AS and GCSE students were treated to a performance of Superstrings at Barrow Sixth Form College this month.
Professor Brian Foster, the head of the particle physics department at the University of Oxford, and young British virtuoso violinist, Jack Liebeck have toured the world with the show.
Around 160 physics and music students found out about Einstein’s ideas and how he founded many concepts of particle physics.
They also heard some of Einstein favourite pieces of music, composed by Bach, Mozart and Kreisler.
Gill de Bourcier, the head of physics at Barrow Sixth Form College, said: “It was an excellent event.
“It was a lecture about Einstein’s contribution to particle physics and there were musical interludes. We hade about 160 students from Barrow Sixth Form College and Chetwynde.
“There were also students from Parkview who are studying particle physics.”
