A WELL-KNOWN newsreader is reminding Cumbrians about new tax returns deadlines in a TV campaign.A REMINDER that Cumbria Chamber of Commerce is holding its next network lunch in South Cumbria this week.
Don’t forget tax returns
She is highlighting the new October 31 deadline for paper tax returns, and the January 31 deadline for online tax returns.
If you need any help with your Self Assessment return, you should visit the HMRC website at www.hmrc.gov.uk/sa or call the Self Assessment helpline on 0845 9000 444, which is open seven days a week, from 8am to 8pm.
Funds available
SMALL Cumbrian firms are being urged to take advantage of increased government funding for energy efficient improvements.
Officials of global renewable energy specialist Stiebel Eltron says the Carbon Trust is set to relax its rules for loans on energy efficiency improvements and expand the funds available to help small firms struggling for resources because of the credit crunch.
The Carbon Trust is a government-funded body created to help businesses cut their carbon emissions.

Cottage sale
A LAKE District cottage where director Ken Russell planned films such as Tommy and Women in Love is for sale.
Mr Russell lived at Coombe Cottage in Borrowdale with his second wife, Vivian, until their divorce in 1991, and she has put it on the market for £625,000.
She said: “I don’t want to leave Cumbria, so I have found a cottage near Silloth.
“It’s a new life and new chapter.”
