Keep bikes out of FGH

AA0134561
BACK AT WORK: Dr Kavinder Madhra, inset, a consultant urologist at Furness General Hospital, was suspended during a probe into test results and then ordered to treat NHS patients under supervision is working on his own again

MAY I state through your columns how disgusted I was to see what appeared to be a member of staff wheeling a bicycle through the foyer of Barrow’s Furness General Hospital and up the main corridor at approximately 7.40am on Monday 1 September, 2008.

My initial reaction was my arthritis drugs were having a hallucinogenic side-effect, and when reality kicked in, it only sparked further confirmation of the dire straights we find our NHS cleanliness and hygiene.

On the one hand, using a bike is good for the environment and one’s health, but, on the other hand, when wheeled into a warm hospital full of sick people, must be regarded as a health hazard to the general public who use the hospital.

The “suits” who brought in contract cleaning years ago, followed by a spate of superbugs, could be responsible for the possibility of another “epidemic”– namely E-PB aka Epidemic Push Bike.

In the interests of all, this act, together with uniforms being worn in public places, must be stopped without delay.
