TODAY brought an end to a stomach-churning summer as relieved Furness students collected their GCSE results.
Alfred Barrow, Parkview and St Bernard’s Catholic High schools in Barrow, and Dowdales School in Dalton, are all celebrating their best ever results.
The news is a great boost to Alfred Barrow, in Duke Street, which is currently in special measures and is set to close along with Parkview and Thorncliffe in 2009 and be replaced by an academy.
Headteacher, Linda Potts, said standards are rising and she is delighted with the achievements despite challenging circumstances.
Dr Potts said: “I am delighted that our students this year have been rewarded for their hard work and determination to succeed.
“The students and I recognise that their success is also clearly the result of the dedication and commitment of all our staff at Alfred Barrow.”
The celebrations were also in full swing at Chetwynde, Thorncliffe and Walney schools this morning.
