We need a new bridge

I AM struggling to understand why the council thought it a good idea to celebrate the fact that Walney has had to endure a century-old structure as its only means of transporting folk to Barrow, thus enduring endless traffic jams and bridge repairs.

The bridge was only meant as a temporary structure and was only built with minimal traffic and horse and cart transport in mind.

Walney residents should have taken the centenary celebrations as an opportunity to petition and rally for a much-needed second bridge.

The council should be concentrating all attention and funds on promptly erecting a new bridge for the thousand of cars, buses, cycles and pedestrians who use the bridge every single day.

The weather was lovely for the celebrations and many people turned out for the events in the Vickerstown Park, it is just a shame the council used a dilapidated bridge as an excuse to provide entertainment for residents.

I was also surprised that the bridge hadn’t fallen down due to the detonation of the ridiculously loud and unnecessary firework display that shook our foundations at 10.30pm on the Sunday. Did the council need to leave it this late to create such a racket?

Sleeping children and pets from all over Walney were given no consideration, then again the council are quite used to not giving any consideration to Walney residents, because if they really did we would have the second bridge by now.
