A PASSIONATE filmmaker is set to have her work showcased by Channel 4.

Thea Jones, 18, has recently created her own short film, Fishy Tales, which is to be showcased for Channel 4's Random Acts.

Ms Jones has expressed her excitement at the achievement and is hoping to make the leap into the TV industry in the near future.

She said: "I'm so excited that my very own film will be up for everyone to see online and even has the potential to be shown on Channel 4 in the upcoming months.

"This experience is fantastic to add to my CV, I'm hoping to hop straight into TV, doing hair and make-up after college.

"It means a lot to me because it has given me the opportunity to take my creative idea and make it into a reality."

Ms Jones, of  Vickerstown on Walney, has been heavily involved in Signal Film and Media, in Barrow, since 2011, and was one of 24 chosen to take part in the Random Acts Network Centre North training programme.

The Random Acts Network Centre North programme is funded by Arts Council England and supported by Channel 4.

It involves an intensive talent residential training workshop, plus online mentoring to develop ideas, and support from industry professionals to make the films.

Signal Film and Media project manager Stephanie Bryant said: "We're overjoyed for Thea, she's utilised Signal to its maximum capacity and is now doing so well that she's an advocate for other young people.

"We've watched her grow up to be such a fantastic, artistic and capable filmmaker who has the grit, determination and positive attitude to make it big in this industry."

Fishy Tales is being showcased on Channel 4's Random Acts website, and has the chance to be broadcast on Channel 4.

The TV show, hosted by cult comedian Eric Wareheim, will air its latest episode on Tuesday, May 17, at 12:05am.
