Barrow teenager fined for PC abuse

A TEENAGER who drunkenly abused police officers has been fined.

Darrian David Birkett, of Duke Street, Barrow, pleaded guilty at Furness Magistrates’ Court yesterday to being drunk and disorderly.

Birkett, 18, was in Cavendish Street, Barrow, on February 9 when he was stopped by police.

Mrs Lisa Hine, prosecuting, told the court Birkett swore at PC Craig Barrass before being arrested.

Birkett initially pleaded not guilty but his mother then accompanied him into the court and he admitted the charge before changing his plea.

Magistrates fined Birkett £65, and ordered him to pay a £20 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
