Barrow sex offender caught with indecent images

A BARROW man has been ordered to sign the sex offenders register after admitting more than 20 charges involving indecent images of children.

Lee Brown, 42, downloaded most of the images, including videos and photographs, onto his desktop computer.

Most of the offences were committed last year but the court was told some date back to 2008.

At Carlisle Crown Court yesterday, Brown pleaded guilty to 19 charges of making indecent photographs of children.

The number of pictures involved was not given in court, but the judge was told around 15 per cent of them were of levels four and five – the two most serious categories of indecent images.

It is understood the children involved were aged between one and 12 years old.

Brown, of Kepplewray Drive, Barrow, also pleaded guilty to publishing an obscene article by joining in an internet chatroom about child abuse, and distributing an obscene movie by sending it over the internet to the person he had been chatting to – taking the total number of charges against him to 21.

He was ordered to sign the sex offenders register with immediate effect but the length of time he will have to stay on the register will only be decided when he is sentenced.

Brown was released on bail for background reports to be prepared.

He will be sentenced in Carlisle Crown Court on August 8.
