AN upcoming litter pick in Furness as part of the Evening Mail’s Big Clean campaign hopes to attract a crowd of enthusiastic volunteers.
Residents have contacted the Evening Mail about litter and flytipping at the sites in the past, making it the ideal location for a spruce-up.
The project has already won the backing of supermarket giant Asda, with members of staff supporting the initiative and grabbing litter pickers on the day.
Volunteers are also being asked to join the clean-up effort and meet at Ormsgill Reservoir for 1pm.
Equipment will be provided, however participants are asked to wear suitable clothing and footwear.
The session should last around three hours.
Staff from Asda along with members of Ormsgill Youth Council have previously tidied up the area as part of ongoing community projects.
Gill Gerrish, Asda community life champion, said the supermarket was delighted to join in with the Big Clean again.
She said: “We’d love to get involved and support it. We’ve cleaned the reservoir and done the lake before. It’s fantastic to help out.”
Families are being encouraged to get involved as part of a fun and rewarding activity during the summer holidays.
Each volunteer will get their very own Big Clean T-shirt on the day as well.
Sponsored by Centrica Energy, the Big Clean is also supported by key partner, Kimberly-Clark. Furness Waste Consortium, Barrow Borough Council, South Lakeland District Council, Lake District National Park Authority, Copeland Borough Council, Morecambe Bay Partnership and LOVEmyBEACH also support the initiative.
The campaign aims to promote civic pride by giving community groups the tools so they can act to keep their environment safe.
