Ofcom have awarded CandoFM Radio, hosted by Furness College, a community radio licence for Barrow.

CandoFM aims to reflect local interests as it will be designed and delivered by the community itself.

Shows will focus on issues such as community safety, health, lifestyle, environment and education.

Jonny Williams, multimedia lecturer at Furness College, said: “The Barrow community now has the chance to direct the future of a truly local radio station.

"[There are] opportunities for students to study and get involved with a working radio station and it will add tremendous value to current courses at Furness College.”

Anne Attwood, Furness College principal and chief executive, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity for our community and college, and yet another fantastic facility to enhance our multimedia resources.”

Community radio services are provided on a not-for-profit basis focusing on the delivery of specific social benefits to a particular geographical community or a community of interest.
