Barrow on street parking charges expected to go ahead

ON STREET parking charges are likely to go ahead in Barrow - despite the final say resting in the hands of the town’s county council bosses.

The controversial roadside tariff is now set to be reduced to just three non shopping streets in Ambleside, Windermere and Bowness following protests from campaigners.

It is hoped the move will protect local shops owners who feared the policy would kill trade and put them out of business.

Have your say

Does the council not make enough money already from the car parks dotted all over town and the traffic wardens.
lets all just stay out of the town centre and go out of town shopping

Sometimes, all I want to do is find a park for 10-20 mins, while I pick up a few items up town. Barrow Town/Market is slowly dying and this will be the icing on the cake!! Barrow Council may as well put up a huge fence around the town and a big arrow pointing shoppers to Asda and Tesco. Lets face it who is going to pay £1.30 to look at empty shops!
