Barrow nurse found guilty of bullying colleague

A FORMER Barrow nurse has been found guilty of bullying a female colleague after already admitting sexual harassment.

Ex- Barrow Raiders rugby player Gary Spencely is today appearing before a panel at the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) in London.

This morning the NMC came back with the verdict on the allegations made against the dad-of-one after deliberating yesterday.

It will now decide if he should be stuck off and banned from working as a nurse.

The panel has adjourned until 1.15 after Spencely left the room in floods of tears.

Spencely had admitted saying to a female colleague on his theatre team that she looked dirty as if she would be into bondage and that he didn't like her but would sleep with her if she was "going short."

He had also admitted that he had said her request for time off for a honeymoon was low priority as it would never happen.

Spencely had denied making a phone call where he called a female colleague, known throughout as Colleague A, stupid or grabbing her wrist. These allegations were found to be proved. A further complaint that he then shouted at her were not proved.

The panel said it accepted that he told her to "bring it on" when she told him she was complaining about his behaviour and that he said he hoped her life was a misery and he enjoyed bullying her. This came after she asked for time off when he brother-in-law died in October 2010.

This afternoon the panel will hear further submissions from both legal teams.

It will then retire once more to decide if Spencely is fit to practice.

The final round of deliberation will see them decide if he should be struck off.

Absolutely disgusting that our so called " health service" employs these kinds if people is a joke, my opinion is that he should be made an example of and strip him of his title and I hope that he suffers as much as his bullied colleague has had to endure
