Barrow man furious after buying £450 Xbox One and receiving just a photo

A BARROW man has been scammed out of £450 after buying an XBox One on eBay, only to be delivered a box with a photograph of the games console in it.
The man from Walney, who did not want to be named, saved up for the newly released console but was left furious after receiving just an A4 picture of the XBox.
He had purchased the item online on eBay, and fortunately will be refunded.
The man said: “I didn’t know what to think when I opened the box and saw the sheet of paper.
“All that was in the box was a note at the bottom saying ‘thanks for your purchase’. I was absolutely shocked that someone could do that.
“The only reason I have been able to get my money back is because the advert described features of the actual console like how many gigabytes it had.”
After reading the small print, the man realised the seller was advertising a photograph of the console, but it was listed in the ‘Games and Consoles’ section of the website along with details about the XBox.
A spokesman from eBay said: “We don’t allow listings which mislead, and will take action against this seller.
“ Customers can shop with confidence on eBay as we guarantee you will get your item or your money back.
“We confirm this case will be covered by the eBay Money Back Guarantee and we will be contacting the customer to put things right.”
It follows a similar case in Nottinghamshire, when another man fell victim to the scam.

Have your say
What a nasty thing to happen, especially so near to Xmas. I'll bet his face was a picture, when he opened the box. Sounds like the Des O'Connor game show.
Buyer beware. ALWAYS read the small print first not after!
