Barrow man, 32, carried out two burglaries in same street

A PROLIFIC offender has been sent back to prison, after he admitted carrying out two burglaries in one street.
Paul Akred, who was sentenced to three years in jail in May 2010 for dealing heroin, admitted committing two counts of burglary overnight between March 22 and 23.
The 32-year-old, of Duncan Street in Barrow, has committed more than 50 offences and was only released this week from a 28-day sentence for attempting to break into the King’s Arms in Dalton Road, Barrow, on April 12.
Yesterday, Furness Magistrates’ Court heard Akred had attempted to break into the Eat the World restaurant in Scott Street, Barrow.
Prosecuting, Mrs Lisa Hine said the defendant smashed a secure door, causing £450 worth of damage, but failed to gain entry to the main area of the restaurant. He took two knives from the property, which were later found at the nearby Bumble Bee shop, where he stole £237.80 worth of cash and a Marie Curie collection box.
Akred was stopped by police on March 28 and was found to be in possession of £361 in cash and a small quantity of cannabis.
Police used forensic evidence from the knives to identify Akred and he was arrested shortly after being released for the King’s Arms offence.
Defending, Ms Maureen Fawcett said her client had “24 or 36 hours of stupidity” which involved consuming alcohol and valium.
She said: “He has no recollection because as far as he was concerned he had been on his curfew.
“He had been drinking but thought police had been round to check on him.”
Ms Fawcett said her client accepted the charges and that, prior to March 22, had been progressing well.
However, the magistrates chose to issue Akred with a custodial sentence of four months for each offence, to run concurrently.
A restitution order was also made for the money that he was found in possession of, with £237.80 given to the owners of Bumble Bee and £123.42 was granted to Mr Fu from Eat the World.
An order for the cannabis to be destroyed was also made.
DC Scott Elliott, who arrested Akred, said regular stop and searches of the defendant helped him to be brought to justice.
He told the Evening Mail: “A month ago I arrested him for attempted burglary at the King’s Arms.
“He was released on bail for that and then nine or 10 hours later he has gone out when he should have been on curfew and burgled these properties on Scott Street, which included taking a charity collection box.
“He is a prolific offender and it helps that we actively engaged in stopping him in the street.”

A prolific offender who keeps receiving pointless prison time. Had he have served his FULL sentence of 3 years for dealing heroin, he wouldn't have been on the streets to commit these crimes.

When are our magistrates going to be allowed to give real deterrent sentences to low life scum. It's about time a few more jails were built, and then run properly like they do in the USA. What's all this business about concurrent sentencing.... Lets see some more consecutive sentences for multiple offences. Keep 'em in for the FULL sentence with no automatic time off for good behavior. In fact if they won't tow the line in jail they should stay inside for even longer!
Or maybe bring back transportation to some remote island group ( Falklands islands spring to mind). Namby Pamby liberals ruining our country by being too soft.
