Barrow jumble sale boost for wheelchair campaign

THE family of a disabled toddler have taken another step closer to helping a fundraising team make enough money to buy him a state-of-the art wheelchair.
Two-year-old Corey McPoland has cerebral palsy, which seriously restricts his mobility.
Corey’s occupational therapist has told parents, Eion and Amanda, that he would benefit from a specially adapted electric wheelchair.
Knowing the family faced a five-year wait, she contacted Harrison’s Fun Fund, the group founded after thieves snatched severely disabled Harrison Holmes’ specially adapted bike.
Having managed to make enough for a new one, the Barrow 11-year-old’s family and friends now raise money to help other youngsters get the equipment and facilities they need.
They are currently working on a £5,000 campaign to secure Corey’s wheelchair.
The team’s latest fundraiser was a jumble sale, hosted by Mrs McPoland at Ramsden Infant School on Saturday. Volunteers raised £250 during the three-hour event.
Mrs McPoland, of Fenton Street, Barrow, said: “We’re really pleased, we’d like to say thank you to everyone who turned up, everyone who helped out and everyone who made donations.
“It means absolutely loads to us – we don’t know what we would’ve done without the fun fund.
“With the wheelchair, Corey will be able to play with the other kids at school and be able to get around.”
The next fun fund event to raise money for Corey’s campaign will be a race night at Roose Pioneers Rugby Club on April 6.
