Barrow filmmaker focuses next film on gymnast’s fight for perfection

CONTROLLING a cast of almost 70 people, five full days of shooting scenes and the prospect of six months in the edit suite are among the challenges faced by a budding film director in her own pursuit of perfection.
Lindsey Dickings has taken on a much bigger project for her second short production as she aims to up her game following the success of her debut piece.
The 29-year-old, who works full time as a photographer for the Evening Mail, filmed Fighting for Perfection earlier this month and is now in the stages of post-production.
Thanking all the voluntary cast and crew who contributed, Miss Dickings, of Hindpool, Barrow, said: “I don’t think people realise how hard it is to make a film, how much time goes in to it. This will be less than 10 minutes long but organising it all, getting every detail right, is a huge effort.
“It can be quite stressful but it’s also a lot of fun, especially once you can see that end product in sight. I had a great team working together.”
Fighting for Perfection documents the inspirational tale of a young gymnast’s fight to reach the top of her game.
Filmed at and featuring a number of local youngsters from Furness Gymnastics Club in Hartington Street, Barrow, it comes hot on the heels of Miss Dickings’ first film, Between Life and Death, is Eliza.
That was screened at the Roxy in Ulverston, and in Manchester, and that is also the plan for the new production.
Miss Dickings also hopes to enter her second piece into short film competitions.
She said: “Gymnastics is a real love of mine. I’ve been coaching for about 15 years but I was also a novice competitor as well. It’s just natural to want to put something so beautiful and something I’m so passionate about on screen and show what goes on behind the scenes.”
