Barrow family man, 23, ‘stroked woman’

A DRUNKEN man stuck his hand up a woman’s skirt after a night out with friends.

A DRUNKEN Barrow man stuck his hand up a woman’s skirt after a night out with friends.

The victim was having a cigarette outside the Broadway bar in Cavendish Street, Barrow, when she was targeted.

She was approached by Alesksejus Gorbik, who sat beside her then put his hand up her skirt and groped her.

Gorbin, 23 of Middle Hill, later told police in interview he had wanted to show off to his mates by touching a “nice girl”.

He appeared at Preston Crown Court yesterday for sentencing after pleading guilty to the sexual assault, which happened in October.

The court heard the victim was a young woman who had been out and about in Barrow on October 13. She said she had enjoyed a good night.

Mr Francis McEntee, prosecuting, said the woman had been at the nightclub and went outside for a cigarette with a friend.

She sat down in a shop doorway and was aware that six or seven young men had walked down Cavendish Street, towards where the two were smoking. As the group approached, she was aware they were talking between themselves in a foreign language. The defendant went and sat down next to her, the court heard.

Almost immediately, he put a hand between her legs and moved his hands up. He stroked her for a second or so, the prosecution said.

The female immediately pushed him away and shouted: “What the hell do you think you’re doing?”

She was shaking and couldn’t help but think of what might have happened had they been in a quieter area, said Mr McEntee.

Mr Richard Archer, defending, said his client indicated he had not stroked the girl: “In drink, he made the quite unacceptable decision to touch this lady. The incident lasted just seconds.

“Probation assess him as a low risk of re-offending. He is a family man, has employment and will not appear in court again”.

The defendant was sentences to two years supervision and 120 hours unpaid work and told to complete a sex offenders treatment programme. He will be on the sex offenders register for five years and was told to pay £100 costs.
